Arts at the Market is Nourish Kids club activity where children ages 2-12 can create a traditional Appalachian craft under the instruction of a local artist. Sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Augusta Enns Ridley is an arts educator currently based in Clinton, TN. She graduated from Berea College in 2019 with a Bachelor's Degree both in Studio Arts and Elementary Education, and a work study placement in Appalachian Crafts. Ridley has experience in many traditional mediums including broom making, weaving, and ceramics, but her primary mediums of interest are metallurgy and oil painting.

Students will stamp, dap, and patina (with assistance) their own pendant. They will be able to choose to turn their pendant into a keychain or necklace with a jumping and hardware.
Hammering - using metal stamps to create designs and texture
Dapping – taking a flat surface to a domed 3D surface
Patina - manipulating heat to create a color or the metal’s surface
Addition of hardware – adding jump rings, leather chords, or keychain rings to turn piece into a functional object

Sheri is a homeschool mom and nurse practitioner who has been making baskets for 17 years. She enjoys crafting with yarn, reading and playing with her new grandbaby.
Students will make a small, round reed baskets that can be made in a short amount of time, fit well with all skill levels and can be easily adapted to use whatever materials may be on hand at home, if the student wishes to make additional baskets. These tiny baskets are perfect for holding treasures or treats.

Casey is a lifelong artist and a full-time mom of little ones. Casey started her pottery journey as a wheel potter, but has loved the accessibility and diversity of projects that hand-building has brought into her world. Seeing people connect to themselves and with others through clay is something she is passionate about.

Students will be able to choose different yarn and loom options based on their age, dexterity and interest level—a narrow yarn spacing and fine yarn will result in a longer weaving project for older or more motivated students, while a wider spacing and bulky yarn will make a good quick project for younger students.
